PRESS RELEASE Leonberg, 25th April 2008
Girls' Day at GEZE: Young girls explore the modern professional and occupational world. The nationwide Girls' Day is now in its seventh year. Last Thursday numerous girls once again took the opportunity to get an insight into "typical" male professions at GEZE GmbH in Leonberg. The Girls' Day at GEZE was quite a special day for Julia Kassel and Lisa Mayer from Rutesheim's secondary school. Together with five class-mates and pupils of the Ludwig-Uhland secondary modern school in Heimsheim and the Konrat-Kocher secondary modern school in Ditzingen, they received a practical insight into technical occupational fields for the first time. The Girls' Day began with a practical orientation in the GEZE Showroom. Simon Rockel, first year trainee for industrial mechanics clearly introduced the GEZE products. Afterwards the girls were guided through the large manufacturing halls and the technical office by training workshop leaders Rolf Böhmler and Werner Weis. Here, they found out how high tech products originate for everyday life and why door closers are tested in endurance tests up to a million times, before they are integrated into buildings. What impressed the girls the most? "The gigantic manufacturing halls and the amount of technology ", for Lisa and ,, how to handle everything to ensure a finished product at the end", stated Julia. The most exciting part of the Girls' Day followed in the training workshop: In two groups and under the instruction of an industrial mechanics trainee every girl made a smart clock, which they could take home with them. The clocks are clear examples of the skills which are learned in the education course industrial mechanics, e.g., drilling, threading and turning. In the final round of questions with Flora Ehrlenspiel, who is responsible for education and the training of the workshop leaders, the girls received their certificates of participation, valuable tips and how a good job application should look. With the Girls' Day as a "girl-future day" GEZE contributes to the fact that young women are motivated to decide their choice of career outside the typically female occupational roles.
