Loxam actively promotes lifting machine safety
Doc.LOXAM
Understanding the inherent risks of the construction industry, Loxam, the
European leader in equipment rental, is playing a particularly proactive role in improving its equipment in order to ensure optimum safety for users. At the beginning of the year, the Group, which has always striven to foresee customer needs, fitted an original safety solution to its fleet of
Access equipment, when the option was available.

Using the secondary guarding device (SGD) - ACTIV Shield Bar developed by Haulotte, Loxam is aiming to offer equipment that is even safer across all its markets.
Loxam and its drive to ensure customer safety
Building on its long-standing societal commitment, the leader in "responsible rental" is actively ensuring the safety of users of its equipment. This proactive approach has resulted in the use of SGDs on its fleet equipment.
Gradually rolling out the use of SGDs across Loxam's fleet of equipment
Initiated at Loxam's UK branch, the new SGD concept intended for lifting equipment was quickly rolled out across all of the Group's markets. Loxam Access UK ended up fitting SGDs to the majority of its booms to cater to the needs of the
UK market as regards safety when working at heights (especially following the outcome of the British health and safety commission under the aegis of the International Powered Access Federation).
Since the beginning of the year, Loxam has fitted SGDs to over 600 of its Access machines, when the option has been available. This innovative technology reduces the risk of entrapment when using Access equipment, especially in instances where work is being carried out in confined areas. SGDs provide a safety guarantee which is very much appreciated by professionals.

ACTIV Shield Bar technology fitted to Loxam's electric and diesel booms
Impressed by this technology that ensures the safety of people working at heights, Loxam joined forces with the
Haulotte Group with a view to acquiring a large volume of electric and diesel booms fitted with SGDs. The system features a detachable bar positioned over the control panel which provides a safety gap, thereby protecting the operator. The system uses a sensor to detect all entrapment risks and enables the operator to react should a dangerous situation arise. Following the alert, only reverse/lowering movements are permitted, allowing the operator to get out of trouble without making the situation worse. After being triggered, the system is easy to reset and reactivate from the basket, thus reducing machine downtime and any impacts on the work underway.
Fully aware of the importance of ensuring operator safety, the Loxam Group will have already fitted SGDs to
600 of its machines by the end of 2014. The Group is intent on pursuing and stepping up its commitment to safety over the coming months. Indeed, SGDs are set to be fitted to all of Loxam's Access equipment.
Founded in 1967, the LOXAM group is a pioneer in equipment hire for construction and industry professionals. With a turnover of
¬805 million in 2013, 611 branches and over 4,410 employees on sites in 13 countries, the Loxam Group is the European number one in equipment hire. With a substantial European fleet of over 200.000 machines, Loxam has always been ready to anticipate,
support and respond to the growing demand from companies seeking to outsource purchasing, management and maintenance of their equipment fleet.
